B CORPS, B SIDES & BASSLINES

B is for busy. And this year’s B Corp month was just that. Every year it grows. It’s a great excuse to talk with and talk about the growing B Corp community. This year, we spent our time at events, panel talks, in cool conversations with like-minded folks, taking inspiration from others, big and small, and working together on how we continue to make things better.

B for bass. Bass holds it together. Bass adds depth. Bass helps make music more impactful.

We’re not only all about drum loops on repeat here in Fillville. Thanks to the B Corp framework, we’re always working on the bassline(sic) too! Drums and basslines make up the core backbone of our b(r)and.

Now, I know that you know that I know that you know that we’re already B Corp certified. We’ve been part of the B Corp community since November 2022. You’ll notice the B is stamped on every bottle, box & drum that we bring back and forth.

Being B Corp certified isn’t about the B logo. It goes way deeper. It’s about making sure we’re hitting a bunch of beats all through the process of trying to do better. It’s about making an ongoing commitment founded on real, broad-based responsibility. Being a one-hit wonder just don’t cut it.

So, we recently got Fill Refill re-certified. The good news is that we successfully recertified, increasing our score from 104.6 B Corp points to 119.6! B Bop A Lula! We’ll be sure to publish our new Impact Report before the summer, as soon as we get the time. We’ll be letting you know exactly what we’ve been doing & how that score breaks down.

A-SIDES

We love when B Corp month rolls around. A reminder of the amazing work the folks at B Lab do. A celebration of businesses trying to do things better for the benefit of all.

We love to shout out cool brands and the brilliant people behind them, any time of year.

From names you might recognise to small independents doing cool stuff, all of them proving that business can be a force for good, and that you can do it with style, substance and real positive impact.

It’s easy to make bold claims. Spotting the ones that are really trying to do better? That’s where B Corp comes in.

Some of our favourites:

Oddbox, Finisterre, Brompton, Bold Beans, Suri, Pip&Nut, Redemption Roasters, Wildfarmed, Pizza Pilgrims, The Uncommon, Patagonia, Ace & Tate, Dulcie, All Day Goods, Petalon Flowers, Paynter Jackets and Hotpod Yoga.

B-SIDES

While we think it’s cool that B Corps get some heavy rotation this month. We know that there are plenty of folks trying to B more. B Sides can be just as cool. The equally brilliant brands, doing all the right things, just without the badge. B Corp isn’t the only marker of a good business. Certification costs money and takes time, a lot of time!

We like B-Sides. Tracks that get less attention than a heavily promo’d flip side. Often, they’re less polished, more interesting, cooler or more experimental than an A-side. Fill started out as a kind of B-Side idea. Now, we’re a bonafide B Corp! Part of the growing B Corp community working towards a more inclusive, responsible & regenerative future. But, becoming a B Corp is only ever the beginning.

So what should you look out for beyond the B? Transparency. An honest ingredient list that isn’t filled up with negative claims. Integrity. Innovation. Independent thought. Copycats don’t cut it for us. All round ethics. What do they do. What they don’t do. Proper accountability. Real action, not just words!

Best of the B-Sides:

Borough Wines, Silo London, Vitsoe, Ffern, Clement Knives, Atelier Ellis, Zak’s Kombucha, GOMI and Zoi Olive Oil.

We’ll keep on taking the B Road, working on our basslines. We never set out to be an overnight sensation. Refill and re-use is not a passing fad! Watch out for a report of all the things we do & all the things we’re gonna do to improve our impact.

B there and B circular!
