Up for the down stroke!
We went along to The House of Commons with the B Lab band to help put the flash light on the Better Business Act (BBA) for Better Business Day on Wednesday 11th June 2025!
PRELUDE
Right now, any folks who own a business have a legal responsibility to make a return for shareholders. The BBA plans to make that… well, better!
How? With a small but beautiful little amendment to the Companies Act that would legally require ALL UK companies to take responsibility for their impact on people and the planet alongside their responsibility to shareholders!
Launched in 2022 by B Lab UK, the campaign is getting a whole lot of rhythm going ‘round with 3,000 businesses and organisations getting ready to tear the roof off!
Purpose and profitability are not a trade off. We might only be one small SME, but we signed up because we know what time it is!
We’re also working hard to bring refill to the nation (under a groove), so it was a real thrill for me to see the Fill Co crew with a glide in their stride and a dip in their hip bringing refillable bottles INTO the House of Commons, backing the Better Business Act & banging the refillable B Corp drum!
Hats off to the B Lab UK team for putting on such an inspiring event (the way they always do) and for allowing us to bring our bottles to the place where folks are meant to gather together to highlight important issues! Motivation & connection came from Mary Portas, Douglas Lamont, Lord Leong and Chris Turner and it was really cool to hang out with loads of folks we already know & get the chance to meet with lots of new collaborators for the future!
Keep your eyes on the 4th July: The Company Directors (Duties) Bill, sponsored by Martin Wrigley MP, will have its Second Reading, to help create a conversation around reforming corporate governance.
You don’t have to be a B Corp to join the Better Business Act, this is about raising the floor. Sign your business up here:
And here’s how you can write a letter in support of the BBA. Hear, hear.
